We achieve our mission by having the studentscontribute several processes:
Computers in the Community
Recycling
Web Design
Infrastructure Maintainenance

Computers in the Community (CIC) is our main process. We receive donations of unused computer hardware,
refurbish and re-donate PC’s to needy families in the community. This process, like our other processes, is kid-centered
and kid-driven. We provide the mentors and the kids drive the process. The students receive hands-on training in leadership,
technology, environmental stewardship and business.
Recycling supports CIC because not all PC hardware donations are reusable. Some must be recycled. We disassemble
unusable PC’s and printers and sell the components to scrap dealers and down stream recyclers. We have investigated the recyclers
and can certify that they do not dump e-Waste in landfills or send it to Africa. The students receive hands–on training in leadership and
environmental stewardship. We have received a major donation of environmental consulting services from the Clydesdale Group and are pursuing
14001 certification of our environmental management system from ISO.
Web Design - We have a place to ‘graduate’ students who had become proficient in CIC and Recycling so we have them develop our web site.
This activity let to more as other non-profits, schools and sponsors asked us to do web-site work for them. Students who have been with us for several
years learn the technological intricacies necessary to provide professional-level telecommunications maintenance, design and development.
Our Infrastructure Maintenance and Enhancement activity is a self-generated process largely driven by our older students. They have designed
and written our Inventory system, installed our network, web, mail, and file servers. They have made major enhancements to the Inventory system,
added a backup capability, installed our phone system, and added still more capabilities to the inventory system. Later this year we expect they will add
backup servers and make the system more robust.
eBay came to SIT when we received good hardware that we couldn’t re-donate and didn’t want to recycle – e.g. X-ray monitors and new cables,
etc. The students are learning marketing, and entrepreneurial skills as they sell-off this inventory.
SUMMARY

God’s Blessings.
